Description
This is the nose section of the great Douglass C-47 Skytrain, also known as the Dakota. Many believe including General D.W. Eisenhower that the C-47 Gooney bird was the most important aircraft of WWll.
"Four things won the Second World War - the Bazooka, the Jeep, the Atom bomb and the C-47 Gooney Bird" Gen D.W. Eisenhower
Douglass created the DC-3 transcontinental airliner prior to world War 2, the biggest and most successful in its class. During the war, these DC-3s were converted into C-47s to fulfill the need to transport large numbers of troops to the battle fields, and other missions.
One of the most beautiful and respected planes of all time.
